Guest Post – The UK Figurine Collective
NOTE FROM EDITOR – This is the second guest post by Tony Young, Director of the UK Figurine Collective. We are excited to have Mr. Young contribute a second time and value his expertise in the field of collective figurines. In his second post, Mr. Young describes another figurine his team is working on.
This one is an affectionate take on the old tradition of “Staffordshire Flatbacks” These were pieces made in Victorian times, often to celebrate a popular event, that were meant to be displayed on a mantel piece. they therefore were flat at the back and all the design showed from the front.
Peter Holland, our other founding director, is a sculptor of note who wanted to do something different for the wedding. His idea is symbolic and started with an image of the Queen and Princess Margaret on a rocking horse, when they were children. Peter has shown Prince William and Catherine riding on a rocking horse over Buckingham Palace, holding the union flag. The idea is that the Prince is riding off on a white charger with his true love. It will appeal to different people to the more traditional royal bride collectors, but is a very lovely model.
